Certification Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded the Level 4 Certificate for the Advanced Practitioner in Schools and Colleges, a nationally recognised qualification from NCFE CACHE.
Entry Requirements
  • Learners must be at least 18 years old.
  • Learners must be employed in a suitable Level 3 role within a school or college, as they need to demonstrate competence in both skills and knowledge.
  • Learners should have suitable experience, knowledge and understanding of working in schools or colleges.
  • Previous Level 3 study is an advantage.

Method of Assessment Assessment Strategy

  • There are no examinations.
  • You will be assessed through tasks linked to learning outcomes.
  • Assessment methods may include written assignments, direct observation in the workplace, professional discussion, expert witness testimony, reflective diaries, case studies, oral questions, learner work products, and portfolio evidence.
  • You’ll need to demonstrate both knowledge and practical competence in areas such as supporting learning, mental health and wellbeing, additional needs and disabilities, working with families and professionals, and implementing change in schools or colleges.
  • All proof of competence must be in a real work environment. No simulations are allowed.
  • Each unit has specific assessment criteria that must be achieved successfully to complete the qualification.

  • Understand the current legislation in relation to children and young people’s mental health in own Home Nation.
  • Understand how to support mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in schools and colleges.

Unit 03

Working with Others to Support Individuals with Additional Needs and Disability in a School or College

  • Understand current frameworks for inclusive practice.
  • Understand provision related to children, young people and/or adults’ additional needs.
  • Understand the role and responsibilities of the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo).
  • Understand factors which affect families who are caring for children, young people and/or adults with special educational needs or disabilities.
  • Understand own setting’s policies and procedures to support children, young people and/or adults with special educational needs or disabilities.

This is a professional development course for practitioners already working in schools and colleges, such as teaching assistants and learning mentors. It emphasises leadership, mentoring, coaching and reflection.
