Your Journey in SEND Leadership and Management
The NCFE CACHE Level 4 Award in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Leadership and Management in the Early Years is a professional qualification for early childhood practitioners who are already working as a lead SENCO or in a SEND-related role. It is based on the Level 3 Award for Special Educational Needs Coordinators in Early Years Settings and is designed to support professionals who want to develop their confidence and take on more leadership and management responsibilities.
This SEND qualification will give you the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to deliver a quality SEND programme within an early years setting. You will learn about relevant SEND laws, statutory guidance and local policies. You’ll also learn how to coach and mentor colleagues, create plans for improvement, and enhance your professional development. You will also be mapping provision, evaluating the effectiveness of your setting’s SEND provision and using practitioner led enquiry to help make real changes.
The Level 4 Award is underpinned by key guidance, such as the SEND Code of Practice: 0 to 25 years and the Early Years Foundation Stage legal framework. You will talk about ways of involving everybody and will concentrate on child-centred approaches, the Graduated Approach, working with families and outside experts and ways to make things better for children with SEND.
Once qualified, you could progress into leadership and management roles such as SENCO or work in an early years setting with a focus on SEND. You could also go to college and study early years, SEND, childhood studies or similar fields at a higher level. The qualification takes 120 hours to complete with 95 hours of guided learning. It is assessed through a portfolio of evidence.
Help is built into every step of your journey. Good Course
I believe this is course helped me understand SEND in an early years setting.
Helped me learn more about inclusivity
Going through the provision mapping exercise to look at our environment for sensory processing problems really opened my eyes. Now I know how to explain to parents why we do things the way we do for children with SEND.
Ideal for Busy Professionals like meÂ
I’m a Room Leader and a full-time mother. With the portfolio method, I could gather evidence during the workday, so I didn’t have to take tests at night. The mentor’s help was quick and kept me on track.
