This qualification has a value of 6 credits. There is one compulsory unit for this course, which is called ‘Understanding the Principles and Practices of Externally Assuring the Quality of Assessment’. Total study time is 60 hours, of which 45 hours are guided learning.
The 603/6878/0 award is a theoretical qualification for people who want to learn about the ideas and methods of external quality assurance but do not need to use them. The second, 603/6877/9, is a practical qualification for those who carry out external quality assurance for an awarding organisation.
You don’t have to have learned any particular skills to get this qualification. It is for students who are at least 19 years old. However, it may be useful for students to already have a Level 3 qualification.
The first unit addresses six main topics: what external quality assurance is and how it works; how to plan activities related to external quality assurance; how to evaluate the quality of assessment and internal quality assurance from the outside; how to keep and improve the quality of assessment; how to handle information related to external quality assurance; and what the law and best practices say about external quality assurance.
The Total Qualification Time (TQT) for this award is 60 hours. The Guided Learning Hours (GLH) are 45 and include face-to-face interaction with a tutor through classes, tutorials, and supervised study. It also provides extra time for independent learning, research, e-learning, and work without supervision.
This qualification is provided by Qualifi Ltd, Reference number RN5160, an Ofqual recognised Awarding Organisation (AO). It’s Ofqual’s job to maintain standards and trust in the qualification. Qualifi is responsible for all the rules and approvals of Ofqual.
Recognition of Prior Learning or RPL is a form of testing that allows students to demonstrate they already know what they need to know about a unit through knowledge, skills, or understanding, which they already possess, without having to undertake a full course of learning. The evidence must be valid and reliable and can be used to credit individual units or the whole qualification, provided it is in accordance with Qualifi’s RPL policy.

These readings will help you to better understand the ideas and methods we have discussed in this unit.
