Once you complete the Level 4 Award, you’ll have a recognised qualification in external quality assurance. It’s a stepping stone for further study in education, training, or quality assurance, and supports long-term career growth in assessment leadership and workforce development.
Yes. This qualification is regulated by Ofqual in England and recognised by employers and education providers across the UK.
All you need is a laptop or computer and reliable internet access. No specialist equipment is required, so you can study comfortably from home whenever it suits you.
.If you want to learn about EQA principles but don’t want to have to do any practice, then the Level 4 Award in Understanding the External Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice is the course for you. The Level 4 Award in the External Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice is a useful qualification for those who are monitoring the quality of assessments from outside an organisation or assessment centre, usually for an organisation that awards qualifications.
The Level 4 Award in External Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice has two mandatory units, which together carry 12 credits. The total qualification time (TQT) for each of the units is 120 hours.
The first unit is Understanding the Principles and Practices of Externally Assuring the Quality of Assessment (Unit code: F/618/5647). It is a 6-credit qualification with 45 guided learning hours. Unit 2: Externally Assure the Quality of Assessment (Unit code: J/618/5648). It is worth 6 credits and has 30 guided learning hours.
Unit 2 will enhance your skills as a learning and development practitioner who is responsible for the quality of assessments that come from external sources. It is about practical skills such as planning, assessing, maintaining, and improving the quality of external assessment.
Yes, Qualifi supports Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which allows students to show that they already meet certain assessment requirements by skills, knowledge, or experience gained at work, at home or in their spare time. Use valid and reliable evidence of prior learning to gain credit for individual units or even whole qualifications.
This qualification is for learners aged 19 and over. No specific learning requirements are required in advance, but a Level 3 qualification may be helpful.
All tests of occupational competence for Unit 2 must be carried out in real place of work. Simulation is not permitted. Assessment must include observation of performance, examination of work products, and questioning.
Total Qualification Time or TQT is an estimate of the hours it takes a learner to reach the level of skill required for a qualification and to prove that they have achieved this. TQT for each unit is 60 hours, total of 120 hours for both units for this award. TQT includes: guided learning; independent research; unsupervised coursework; e-learning; e-assessment; viewing pre-recorded podcasts or webinars; and work-based learning.
An EQA is an individual, usually working for an awarding organisation, who plans, oversees, reviews, helps improve, and builds assessment quality from outside of an organisation or assessment centre. Your job will be to check the quality control systems within the company. You will be giving feedback and direction to employees and making sure assessment methods are all the same. You will keep accurate records and link the awarding organisation to the centre.
In your work in EQA you need to follow equality and diversity laws, codes of practice and the requirements of the awarding organisation as part of the qualification. This includes promoting equality and diversity, being flexible when it is needed, providing extra help and resources and making sure people are bilingual when it is needed.
Technology plays a very important role in terms of EQA. Examples include online tests, e-portfolios, electronic projects and homework, audio and video evidence, electronic feedback and discussion forums, and remote sampling. But when using technology, it’s good to think about the authenticity and dependability of evidence. It is also important to keep records and keep them secure, including making sure that electronic protection and security meet data protection requirements.
You need to take the right steps to collect, store and share information about EQA properly. This includes complying with data protection legislation, keeping electronic records securely, keeping observation records and assessment paperwork securely and sharing information with the right people in a timely and useful way.
You should also regularly review your own skills, set realistic goals and targets, adapt your EQA plans based on evidence and feedback and do ongoing CPD. This means keeping up with the requirements of the awarding organisation, new ways of assessing candidates, and changes to relevant laws so your knowledge and skills are always up to date.
