Your Journey in Mental Health
The NCFE CACHE Level 2 Award in Suicide Awareness is a nationally recognised qualification regulated by Ofqual that will support you to improve your knowledge of suicide awareness. The qualification looks at the number and context of suicides in the UK, the stigma surrounding them, the main risk factors and the important understanding that anybody can provide support to make a difference. In this course you will learn how difficult times in life can change a person’s feelings, thoughts, and actions. You will learn about what makes people vulnerable to stress, what risks they run, how much stress they can tolerate and good and bad ways in which people can cope with stress. The course also looks at how negative thoughts and behaviours, triggers and a person’s perception of the future can increase their risk of suicidal ideation.
In this Level 2 Award qualification, you will learn the cues that someone may be using to indicate they are having mental health difficulties or suicidal thoughts. You’ll also learn how to have a sensitive and appropriate conversation with someone who may be at risk, including how to safeguard their privacy and find out what kind of help they would like. The course teaches people how to find solution-focused answers and connect them with the right professional and support groups.
This Suicide Awareness qualification is aimed at anyone aged 16 and above who wants to learn more about suicide risk and how people may respond in difficult situations. This course may be of particular benefit to people who work or want to work in health and social care, education, community services and housing, safeguarding or any role that involves working with vulnerable people. It can also support continuing professional development.
On successful completion of this qualification, learners can progress onto further study in mental health. Advanced qualifications can help learners expand their knowledge of mental health and support further study, professional development or roles in which mental health awareness may be beneficial.
