Career Progression Become a Certified Personal Trainer 

Once you complete the Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training, you will be ready to work as an independent personal trainer or gym instructor. You can work in leisure centres, gyms, and independent studios, or be self-employed, providing personal training programmes for your clients. With experience, you may move into roles such as performance coach or fitness manager or provide specialised services like rehabilitation support.

Entry requirements 
  • Learners should be 16 years of age. 
  • A minimum Level 2 in basic numeracy and literacy.

  • This course can be completed through two flexible study options to suit your lifestyle:
    • Standard Course Plan (8 months) – ideal for learners balancing other commitments.
    • Fast Track Option (4 months) – perfect for those who can dedicate intensive study time.
  • Most learners complete within their chosen timeframe, though some may finish earlier depending on personal circumstances and available study time. We accommodate your pace with unlimited support for 12 months. This Level 3 Diploma requires approximately 293 guided learning hours.

Method of Assessment To earn the Level 3 Diploma, you must submit a comprehensive portfolio of your work. Importantly, this course does not have an exam. This is how you will be evaluated during your course. 

  • Portfolio of Evidence: You will be assessed based on a comprehensive portfolio of your work, demonstrating key competencies in personal training. This can include worksheets, assignments, and practical applications. All written assignments will be marked internally by a tutor at South London College who will provide the relevant feedback to ensure you succeed in future assessments. 
  • Grading: This qualification is awarded on a pass/fail basis and does not include any grading system.
