Qualifications Required to Become a Childcare Worker

What Is a Childcare Worker?

A Childcare Worker provides care, educates and nurtures children in day care, nursery or in private settings. This position is good for people who love working with kids and who are looking to have an impact in their lives.

What Qualifications Are Required?

The Certificate of Level 2 is regarded as a stepping-stone to a career in childcare. A diploma or degree may not be necessary, but most day care and nursery positions have a level 2 as a starting point. There is the possibility of some roles being based on Level 1 only. However, having a Level 2, or Level 3 qualification would be a better option for higher career progress and opportunities.

So what now, how do you begin your childcare Career?

  • Apprenticeships: This offers a fantastic opportunity to gain knowledge with work experience as an added bonus. Children working in the Early Years sector may often choose to take an Early Years Practitioner course.
  • College Courses: Childcare and Early Years Courses are available in most colleges, from Level 1 upwards (full-time).
  • Online Learning: Some providers have flexible online courses (online learning). They are ideal for those who have a busy schedule and can rarely find time to stop.

Can You Work in Childcare Without Qualifications?

As stated above, there are some employers who welcome the new staff. You can get valuable nursery or day care experience and learn things you need by volunteering at a nursery or day care. You can further improve your career chances while enhancing your childcare experience by even babysitting for family or friends, while taking an online course.

Additional Requirements Needed to Become a Childcare Worker

  • 1 . Training in Pediatric First Aid
  • 2 . Knowledge in EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage)
  • 3 . DBS Checks (Disclosure and Barring Services)
  • 4 . Health Declarations
