  • The NCFE Level 2 Functional Skills Qualification in English requires approximately 55 guided study hours. This figure is an estimate and depends on how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how quickly you grasp the teaching, learning concepts, and course materials.
Method of Assessment This course is assessed through two external assessments and one assessment conducted under supervision. This is to evaluate how well you understand the subject.

  • External Assessment: This covers the following two components;
    • Reading
    • Writing (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar)

English Level 2 exam has two parts: a reading paper and a writing paper. The reading paper includes multiple-choice and written questions, with longer written questions at the end. These questions test skills of inference, comparison and spotting linguistic features. The writing paper has two longer questions that need detailed answers. Your writing, spelling, punctuation, and grammar will all be marked. The duration of each test is 60 minutes. The external assessment can be completed online/at home using remote proctoring. You will be observed via audio and visual links when completing your external assessment.

  • Controlled Assessment: This covers the following component;
    • Speaking, Listening, and Communicating

You will be tested on your speaking, listening, and communication skills in two ways. First, you will give a 10-minute presentation and participate in a related question and answer session. Then, you will take part in a 15-minute formal discussion in a small group.

  • Feedback and Guidance: Your personal tutor will consistently monitor your progress and provide you with detailed feedback and guidance. This constructive feedback is designed to help you improve in future assessments.
  • Assessor Support: Throughout your studies, you will have comprehensive support from assessors through multiple channels, including telephone, WhatsApp, online discussions, email, and web chats.
