Entry requirements
  • The course is suitable for learners aged 16 years and above.
  • Learners should have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.
  • Be working in an appropriate school for a minimum of 12 hours per week or 50 hours over the duration of the qualification. This can include voluntary or unpaid work.
  • Arrange for a colleague to act as an Expert Witness throughout your qualification to complete the Observations and Expert Witness Testimonies. (Your Expert Witness must hold either a Specialist HLTA qualification at Level 4 or a Teaching Qualification at a minimum of Level 4)
Method of Assessment This course is evaluated through a combination of written assignments and a direct observation. Importantly, this course doesn’t have exams. Here’s an overview of how you will be assessed throughout the course:

  • Written Assignments: The assessment includes written assignments. At the end of each module, you will be required to complete a series of tasks, requiring essay-style answers, which are sent to the tutor for marking. Your personal tutor will provide you with constructive feedback and guidance to help you improve and succeed.
  • Direct Observation: A minimum of 50 supervised hours in a school with pupils aged 5+ at Key Stage 1 or above is required, including signed witness testimonies. As part of this work placement, you must ensure that a member of staff (manager) with occupational competence is able to provide supervision and sign the witness testimonies.
  • Assessor Support: You will have support from assessors available via telephone, WhatsApp, online discussion forums, email, and web chats, ensuring that you have access to help whenever you need it.
