Become a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant/strong>
If you’re an existing teaching assistant and wish to take the next step in your career, the Level 4 Certificate for Higher Level Teaching Assistants is perfectly suitable. This Ofqual-regulated Level 4 Teaching Assistant course provides a progression route for support staff in schools. You can assist pupils more independently and work closely with the teacher to plan lessons and activities and deliver them. You can also provide cover for the teacher during certain periods and take more accountability in your position as an HLTA. The roles and responsibilities of an HLTA are to engage closely with the teacher, help raise the standard, and support students in achieving their full potential.
The Higher Level Teaching Assistant course is an OFSTED approved qualification and offers you the opportunity to apply for an HLTA position within schools in the United Kingdom. The key difference between a teaching assistant and higher-level teaching assistant is the increased responsibility in the classroom. This can lead to attractive remuneration and incentives due to it being a bigger role. If you take on a SEN (special educational needs) teaching position, you may be able to demand higher pay. This HLTA Level 4 is a nationally recognised qualification which is broadly respected and acknowledge in the education and training sector.

Method of Assessment | To earn the Level 4 HLTA Certificate, you will be assessed through a combination of written assignments, a portfolio of evidence, and direct observation. Importantly, this course does not have an exam. This is how you will be assessed throughout the course.
Written Assignments: You will be assessed through written assignments which will be marked internally by your tutor. Your personal tutor will provide you with constructive feedback and guidance to help you improve and succeed. Portfolio of Evidence: You must submit a portfolio to showcase your practical skills. This portfolio can be presented as evidence of your understanding of all learning outcomes associated with each unit. You will be internally assessed by a tutor at South London College. Direct Observations: You are required to complete a work placement of up to 50 hours. The placement can be in a school setting, either primary, secondary, or a special needs school. It is ideal if the pupils in your practical placement are aged 5+ and are studying at Key Stage 1 or above. Witness Testimony: A colleague must give an expert witness statement confirming how you carried out the assessments. Assessor Support: We provide complete assessor support. You can get in touch by telephone, WhatsApp, online discussion forums, email, and web chat. For further questions about the assessment process, we are only a click away.
