Entry Requirements
  • Learners should be 18 years and above. 
  • You must be qualified and /or experienced in your subject specialism. 
  • Have the ability to study at Level 5. 
  • Have adequate reading and communication skills. 
  • Achieve a Level 2 in English and Maths prior to starting the qualification. 
  • Have a suitable level of digital competency to meet the qualification requirements. 
  • It is recommended you have a teaching placement that covers a minimum of 250 hours. 150 hours should be dedicated to teaching practice.  A minimum of 80 hours of this should be face-to-face teaching. A minimum of 20 hours should be done remotely.

Average Completion Timeframe The Level 5 Diploma in Teaching requires 400 GLH. You can complete this course in just a few months or take up to a year; it’s flexible to suit your schedule. Most learners finish within 9-12 months, but if you have more time to study or relevant experience, you may complete it sooner. We offer full support for up to 12 months, so you can work at a pace that’s right for you. 
Method of Assessment To earn the Level 5 Diploma in Teaching, you are required to submit a portfolio of evidence and undergo direct observation. This includes a 30-minute discussion with your assessor. Importantly, this course does not have an exam. Here’s how you will be assessed throughout the course.

  • Written Assignments: You will complete written assignments for each unit. This can include lessons plans or additional evidence to demonstrate your teaching skills.
  • Portfolio of Evidence: You must submit a portfolio that shows your practical skills and includes observed practice. This portfolio of evidence will explain your level of skills and understanding related to all learning outcomes of each unit.
  • Direct Observations: You will undergo a minimum of ten observations, each lasting approximately 45 minutes. These observations are important for assessing your teaching performance in a suitable environment.
  • Practical Teaching Experience: You must complete at least 150 hours of documented teaching experience. This can be recorded in a teaching log that details your activities and teaching hours.
  • Placement Location: You must have practical placement experience in at least two different locations. This is to understand how diverse teaching environments operate. You should spend a minimum of 20 non-teaching hours in the second location. There is flexibility in these 20 hours, as they are not specified as teaching hours.
  • Remote Delivery: You should complete a minimum of 20 hours remotely. You can arrange this with a colleague who will act as a witness.
  • Personal Statement and Professional Development Log: You will submit a personal statement that reflects your learning journey and a log that documents your continued professional development activities.
  • Grading: This qualification is awarded on a pass/fail basis and does not include any grading system.
  • Assessor Support: You will receive complete support from your assessor through telephone, WhatsApp, online discussion forums, email, and web chats.
