Start Your Journey as a Certified Teacher
If you wish to become a teacher or educator or take on the role of tutor or training manager, this Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (Further Education and Skills) will cement your teaching status. This is an Ofqual-regulated qualification which seeks to enhance your skills and knowledge as a further education teacher in colleges, adult education, work-based learning, offender education, and independent training organisations. The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training equips you with an understanding of pedagogical principles and the tools to implement innovative and inclusive teaching practices. With the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training you will learn to create a diverse educational environment, ensure assessments meet the various needs of learners, and utilise effective strategies for behaviour management.
The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training meets the criteria to gain QTLS status, enabling you to apply for QTLS on completion. If you’re already in a teaching role, the Level 5 DET gives you the opportunity to obtain Qualified Teacher Status (QTLS). Since 2012, teaching and training professionals in the UK who are members of the Society for Education and Training (SET) and have Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status are considered equal to teachers with QTS in schools. To get QTLS, you need a Level 5 Initial Teacher Training (ITE) qualification, which this Level 5 Teaching qualification offers.
If you decide not to pursue the QTLS status, you can still pursue teaching in your subject specialism with private training providers, further education colleges, higher education settings, workplaces, and other sectors. This is an excellent opportunity to become a teacher without attending university.
This qualification replaces the previous Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET). You will be equipped with subject-specific teaching strategies, digital competencies, and the ability to create inclusive learning environments.
