Entry Requirements
  • Learners should be 19 years and above.
  • There are no formal prerequisites to take this course; however, learners should have a Level 2 in literacy and numeracy or an equivalent.

Average Completion Timeframe The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) requires 84 GLH.  

You can complete this course in just a few months or take up to a year; it’s flexible to suit your schedule. Most learners finish within 6 months, but if you have more time to study or relevant experience, you may complete it sooner. You will receive full support for 12 months, so you can work at a pace that’s right for you. 

Method of Assessment To earn the Level 3 CAVA qualification, you must create a portfolio of evidence and undergo direct observation. Importantly, this course does not have an exam. This is a breakdown of how you will be assessed. 

  • Portfolio of Evidence: You must submit a portfolio to showcase your practical skills and experience. This portfolio of evidence will explain your level of competency and your understanding of all learning outcomes related to each unit. You will be assessed internally by a tutor at South London College who will give you constructive feedback to help you succeed in your assessment.
  • Direct Observation: You must undergo one direct observation of your work as an assessor. The observation can take place at your job or in a voluntary placement. You need to show your skills and provide clear evidence that you are ready to work as an assessor. You further need to assess two different learners and submit evidence of these assessments. 
  • Witness Testimony: A colleague must give an expert witness statement confirming how you carried out the assessments.
